I am looking for financial assistance for my 4 grandchildren, as their parents are both currently umployed and are also in the process of losing their home. My oldest grandson is 11, twin boys are 5 1/2 and granddaughter is 4 1/2 The twins will be attending kindergarden this fall, and my grandaughter has to wait an additional year since her birthday is in November.

Please advise how to apply for assistance. Thank you for your consideration, Liz Barnes

I would like to request financial assistance so that my 10 year old daughter can attend summer camp for the first time. I have never requested assistance before and do not know the procedure for doing so but saw this website while trying to find something suitable for her to do that would fit our budget which is $0. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your consideration.

We sent our daughter to overnight camp this past summer. She was almost 10 and going into the 5th grade. She had been asking to go and she was ready for the independent experience. She was looking forward to going to a place where she didn't know anyone and ready to take on the challenge of making new friends. While she had a wonderful time she found that most kids go with a buddy or sibling their first time out and that inhibited my daughter's ability to make new friends. I would recommend that kids look for a friend to join them in their first experience at overnight camp. Even if they are not assigned the same group, the child perceives a safety net and that enhances their confidence in finding new friends.

The one thing that parents don't want during this economic downturn is to stop their kids progress (intellectual, emotional and physical.) While the parents may be focusing on their economic concerns it will be increasingly important to get their kids into activities that challenge them and continue to make them grow. Taking the time to find scholarships or lower cost camps if necessary is worth the investment in time to keep the kids moving forward. Summer camps provide a wonderful place for kids to be kids and get a break from the stresses that are quite common in todays home environment.

As a summer day camp provider, Scottsdale Education Center, has definitely taken to heart the economic situation this year and expanded our program to fit the needs of working parents. We also believe flexibility as well as pricing is key. To that end we have expanded our hours to 8 AM to 5 PM with moring, afternoon, "design your own" or full day options. If you want a morning with only a few additional hours you can design your own hours. If you want a 10 AM to 5 PM program, we can accomodate that as well. We are confident that this approach combined with an exceptional staff of Arizona Certified Teachers and themed weekly programs (that allow for one week, selected weeks or a whole summer) will be a winning combination for struggling families.

I believe that parents would opt to send their children to camp, which will enable them to continue working as opposed to taking a week or more off to watch their children. There are several camps which are affordable and certainly cost effective when factoring in loss of income.
